What a Tool

When a business gets taken to court or arbitration over wage and hour disputes, our experience has found that the case often gets lost because one of the sides has neglected to document the employee’s work hours.

Now the U.S. Department of Labor has come out with a  smart-phone app that keeps track of work hours. The app keeps track of regular work hours, break time and overtime hours, and users can add comments to the data and email the time reports directly from the app.  The app also links to the DOL’s wage law section on its website and a  features a “Contact Us” button that allows users to call or email the DOL’s Wage & Hour Division. The DOL states that the information entered on the app could prove useful during its investigations.

The app is available from iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dol-timesheet/id433638193?mt=8). It can be used on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  Versions for the Android and BlackBerry are on the way.
